Not only raising awareness and understanding through dialogue and meeting, the event will also demonstrate the promotion and protection of three freedoms of expression, association and peaceful assembly. In this upcoming “Light up Night”, Amnesty International Thailand will spot the light over capital punishment issue. The theme carried out is “Death Penalty: A Ticket to Kill.” From human rights perspective, death penalty is a form of government led human rights violation. The awareness on such issue must be recognized in national and global level. For the opening, Amnesty International is proudly present its latest annual report “Death Sentences and Executions 2010”, lunched on 28th March 2011. Followed, there will be an open forum to share and discuss about death penalty abolition, human rights, and Thai society. Professor Danthong Breen, chairman of the Union for Civil Liberty, a leading human rights organization based in Bangkok, an honor guess speaker of the night, is willing to share his distinguished experiences as a human rights activist in Thailand. Interestingly, although most countries in the world have jumped on a bandwagon to abolish death penalty, it still is one of human rights controversial topics from time to time.
