22 เม.ย.52 ทีมข่าวไทยอีนิวส์รายงาน ว่าคนไทยในอิลลินอยส์ในนามชมรมผู้รักประชาธิปไตยไทย อิลลินอยส์ ได้เขียนจดหมายเปิดผนึกส่งถึง มร.โรเบิร์ต วู๊ด โฆษกรัฐบาลสหรัฐฯ ลงวันที่ 19 เม.ย.52 โดยเนื้อหาได้แสดงความผิดหวังที่ทางรัฐสหรัฐฯ ด่วนใจที่จะออกจดหมายแสดงท่าทีเลือกข้างรัฐบาล และประณามฝ่ายสนับสนุนประชาธิปไตยคนเสื้อแดง กรณีที่เกิดเหตุรุนแรงในกรุงเทพฯ

 

ในจดหมายดังกล่าวบรรยายว่าท่าทีดังกล่าวเกิดขึ้นในขณะที่ข้อมูลต่างๆ ยังไม่ครบถ้วนว่าฝ่ายใดกันแน่ที่เป็นสาเหตุที่ก่อให้เกิดเหตุรุนแรง และเกิดขึ้นในขณะที่มีผู้ที่ถูกกระสุนจากอาวุธปืนทั้งๆ ที่กองทัพอ้างว่าได้แต่ยิงปืนขึ้นฟ้า

 

สิ่งที่ทำให้คนไทยรักประชาธิปไตยผิดหวังยิ่งขึ้นไปอีก คือ กรณีที่สหรัฐฯ ก็ไม่มีทีท่านำพาใดๆ ต่อพวกเสื้อเหลืองที่ถึงขั้นจัดตั้งกองกำลังของตัวเอง และชี้ให้เห็นว่าการประท้วงที่พัทยาได้มีพวกมือที่สามเข้ามาก่อสถานการณ์

 

สิ่งต่างๆ เหล่านี้ทำให้ผู้เขียนสงสัยในนโยบายที่รัฐบาลชุดใหม่ได้ประกาศโดยเฉพาะการเน้นต่อประชาธิปไตยและสิทธิมนุษยชน และถามกลับไปยังคนอเมริกันว่า "ถ้าบ้านเมืองท่านเองถูกรัฐประหาร ท่านเองจะนิ่งเฉยอยู่หรือ? ท่านคิดว่าคนอเมริกันจะไม่มีทีท่าเช่นเดียวกับที่คนเสื้อแดงเขาทำหรือเมื่อเสียงของพวกท่านถูกจำแนกว่าเป็นเพียงพลเมืองชั้นสอง"

 

ท้ายสุดจดหมายดังกล่าวได้ชี้ว่า สื่อมวลชนไทยในขณะนี้ได้กลายมาเป็นเครื่องมือโพรพาแกนด้าไปแล้ว และเห็นว่าการที่คนไทยและอเมริกันจำนวนมากสนับสนุนนายโอบาม่าเป็นเพราะพวกเขาต้องการความเปลี่ยนแปลง ซึ่งเช่นเดียวกับที่ประเทศไทยเองก็ต้องการความเปลี่ยนแปลง โดยหวังว่ารัฐบาลอเมริกันจะมีส่วนช่วยในกระบวนการประชาธิปไตยดังกล่าวนี้

 

นอกจากนั้นทีมข่าวไทยอีนิวส์ ยังได้รายงานถึงจดหมายเปิดผนึกจากกลุ่มคนไทยในสหราชอาณาจักร (UK) ถึงรัฐบาลอภิสิทธิ์และยูเอ็น กรณีสิทธิขั้นพื้นฐานของพลเมือง โดยระบุว่าจดหมายฉบับดังกล่าว ถูกส่งวันนี้ (22 เม.ย.52) จ่าหน้าถึงนายอภิสิทธิ์และรัฐบาล เตือนให้เห็นถึงประเด็นทางสิทธิมนุษยชนในกรณีการจับกุมตัวแกนนำคนเสื้อแดงและคนเสื้อแดงอีกอย่างน้อย 19 คน ที่ถูกจับกุมตัวโดยปราศจากการได้รับสิทธิขั้นพื้นฐานของพลเมือง

 

ในขณะเดียวกันก็ได้มีจดหมายอีกฉบับหนึ่งถูกส่งคู่ขนานไปยังองค์การสหประชาชาติ เรียกร้องให้มาดูแลเรื่องสิทธิเสรีภาพมนุษยชน ในกรณีที่แกนนำและคนเสื้อแดงอีกสิบเก้าคนถูกจับกุมตัวโดยปราศจากสิทธิพื้นฐานของพลเมือง

(จดหมายเปิดผนึกส่งถึง มร.โรเบิร์ต วู๊ด โฆษกรัฐบาลสหรัฐฯ)

Dear Mr. Robert Wood:

 

We wrote this letter to express our disappointment with the quickness and position of the US government in siding with the Thai government in condemning the Pro-democracy 'Red Shirts' alleged violence that was expressed by you as reported by AFP. We believe that it was premature to judge and assigned blame when all facts were not yet known as to who instigated the violence, and while violence were committed by both sides and still going on.

 

As you're known, there were loss of lives and many were injured, most are Red Shirts, during the military crackdown. Do you seriously believe that the 'fake' or rubber bullets killed those demonstrators? Or the US government seriously thought that the demonstrators were killed by the M16 bullets felled from the sky as claimed by the military that they pointed their M16 upward.

 

What made this worse for us, the democracy-loving-people in Thailand and abroad is that we did not see the US government came out to condemn the 'Yellow Shirts' PAD who took over 2 airports and clearly prone to violence. They have organized armed militias, not afraid to instigate violence, and blatantly disrespect of law and order. On the contrary, Red Shirts had been holding demonstrations and rallies many time peacefully and non-violence till the Asian Summit in Pattaya. Is it possible that there were '3rd hand' instigators? We don't know until there is an investigation. We believe a new and impartial committee consists of Thai and foreign friends should form to find this truth.

 

We wonder---should we take your action now as a change in long held foreign policy of the US in supporting democracy and human rights? Would the American people stay idle when their government was taken by the military coup? Would you expect the American people to behave differently from the Red Shirts when their votes were taken away and being treated as 2nd class citizens? Wouldn't you and American people feel outrage? We have no doubt that you and American would feel and

do the same thing.

 

Now that many mainstream Thai media became Thai propaganda tools, the US at least should be impartial and fair, and stay true to its color. Many Thais and Asian American along with most American support President Obama because we believe in him to bring change to this country. Likewise, Thailand needs change. We hope and urge you to be impartial and help bring positive change to Thailand, and support the Thai people struggle for democracy.

To Mr Abhisit Vejjajiva & his government

 

This is a reminder that the arrest and confinement of the Redshirt leaders Veera Musigapong, Natthawut Saikua and Weng Tojitrakarnhas has not gone unnoticed by the world.

 

It is also known that at least a further 19 Redshirt Supporters were taken from police custody by the military, currently their whereabouts is unknown.

 

Any Redshirt Supporters held by the Military should be released into the custody of the Police, where the crimes for which they are accused can be investigated and where they can receive their basic Human Rights.

 

Why has the PM and the Thai Government chosen to ignore their Human Rights guaranteed under UN Conventions

 

Yet the PAD leaders including a Cabinet Minister are still free to roam even though they instigated the terrorist act of holding the country to ransom by closure of the International Airports.

 

This is not the act of an unbiased Government.

United Nations Human Rights Organisation,

Amnesty International

Human Rights Watch

Asian Human Rights Commission.

 

A request that you remind Thailand and the Thai Government of its signing and acceptance of the UN Conventions and Articles concerning Human Rights.

 

That a check be made on the welfare of the Redshirt leaders as named above and demand that their Basic Human Rights are upheld.

 

At least 19 prisoners were handed over by the Thai Police to the Military, their welfare and whereabouts is currently unknown.

 

This is a request that you demand the release of all prisoners taken by the Military during the recent Songkran unrest, into the custody of the Thai Police where the crimes for which they are accused can be investigated and where they can receive their basic Human Rights.

 

This is also a request that you exert pressure on the Thai Government to treat all of its subjects equally without bias

 

PLEASE REMIND THE THAI GOVERNMENT THAT THE WORLD IS WATCHING
