The military have visited the home of a community rights activist in the northeastern province of Sakon Nakhon after she campaigned for the right of rubber farmers whose rubber trees were cut down by the military under the policy to evict farmers from protected areas.

Three military officers on Thursday 31 March 2016 visited the house of Chanthorn Phochan in Lup Lao Sub-district, Phu Phan District, but found only her 82-year-old father. Chanthorn’s father told a citizen reporter that he was very worried about the visit because the military looked very determined to meet his daughter.

The group waited for Chanthorn at the house for about an hour before they left.

Chanthorn, who came home in the evening, said the visit was a clear case of intimidation due to her work related to farmers who suffered from the junta’s policy on land and forests.

She suspects that her work with rubber farmers whose rubber trees were cut by the military on 29 March 2016 in Lup Lao Sub-district was the cause of the visit.
