Anti-junta group to sue Prayut and coup-makers for rebelling against constitution

An anti-junta group plans to file charges against the Thai junta leader and his associates for instigating rebellion to topple the constitution.

Resistant Citizen, a courageous pro-democracy and anti-junta group, last Thursday posted a video and a statement on the group’s Facebook page stating that the group will file charges against Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha, the junta leader and Prime Minister, and his fellow coup-makers for staging last year’s coup d’état.

The charges will be filed at Bangkok’s Ratchada Criminal Court on 22 May 2015, exactly a year after the coup d’état.

According to the group’s statement, Gen Prayut and his associates have stolen the authority to decide their own future which belongs to all Thai people by staging a coup and ripping up the 2007 Constitution.

The group also condemned the junta leader for the imposition of martial law and subsequently Section 44 of the Interim Constitution, which continue to put restraints on the freedoms and rights of Thailand’s citizens in the name of national security.

The junta also engaged in nepotism at various levels of governance to cling to power and economic interests unashamedly, the group statement added.
