Amphon withdraws appeal and will seek royal pardon

Amphon Tangnoppakul, who has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for lèse majesté, has decided to withdraw his appeal on the case, and will seek a royal pardon, said his lawyer Anon Nampha on 2 April, citing his old age and health problems as the reason.

The lawyer will ask the court to withdraw the appeal on his client’s behalf today.

According to the lawyer, Thanthawut Thaweewarodomkul, another lèse majesté convict sentenced to 13 years’ imprisonment for allegedly being the administrator of the NorPorChor USA website, also wishes to withdraw his appeal in order to seek a royal pardon.  However, Thanthawut wants to know the outcome of his request for bail first, which the lawyer has already submitted to the Supreme Court for over a month now.
