Council of State rejects proposed amendments to Print Registration Act as unconstitutional

On 1 Nov, Deputy Spokesperson of the PM’s Office Chalitrat Chantarubeksa told reporters that the Office of the Council of State had rejected amendments to the 2007 Print Registration Act as proposed by the Ministry of Culture and approved by the Cabinet on 18 Oct.

The agency, which is the government’s advisory body on legal matters, told the government that certain parts of the proposed amendments might go against Section 45 of the Constitution which guarantees the people’s rights to freedom of expression.

The Cabinet then asked the Ministry of Culture to reconsider the amendments, he said.

The amaat telling the Phuea Thai government that they are infringing people’s rights to freedom of expression!

Apart from the gamesmanship and utter insincerity of the amaat this ought to be a wake call to the dinosaurs in Phuea Thai whose only question when ordered to jump by Prayuth and his druggies was... "How high?"

Thai Council of State - a department coming directly under the authority of the Prime Minister of Thailand, having the duty to render legal advices to state agencies and state enterprises as may be required. It formerly acted as the Supreme Administrative Court prior to the establishment of the Administrative Courts in 1999.

So I assume they have no real power, and are offering a legal... or political... opinion. Currently Meechai Ruchuphan is the chairman/president of Thailand's Law Reform Commission, Council of State.
