A group of academics called Santi Prachatham have urged the government to dissolve the House in 3 months to break the impasse and avoid violence.  3 months are sufficient and charter amendments must be done after elections, they said.

On 6 April, members of the Santi Prachatham group held a press conference at the 14 Oct Memorial to launch their campaign for a House dissolution.  The group consists of lecturers from various universities including Thammasat, Chulalongkorn and Mahidol.

The academics urged the government and the United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship to return to negotiations, and proposed 3 months as the timeframe for a House dissolution, to allow the government to implement urgent policies regarding, for example, the economy.

They said 3 months would be sufficient.  The people should make their decision through elections, as the government lacks legitimacy regarding the way it was formed.

They disagreed with the government on holding a referendum and amending the constitution before calling the elections, because that would be buying time.

Phuangthong Phawakaphan from Chulalongkorn University’s Faculty of Political Science said that the group had produced campaign leaflets, posters and stickers for dissemination, and electronic versions can be downloaded at www.yupsapa3m.net.

Yupsapa 3 m (House dissolution in 3 months)

The poster says: House dissolution in 3 months to break the impasse and avoid violence; during the 3 months, the government implements urgent policies, and all sides make an agreement to have peaceful elections and accept the results; and let the people make their decision.
