A group of about 100 people, mostly belonging to the middle class in Bangkok, have signed a petition to the Thammasat University administration to open the campus and allow demonstrators and the public to use basic facilities such as toilets.  They say the university is ignoring the political struggle of the people.

The group sent the letter to the university administration on 14 March, saying that the demonstrators were in pressing need of basic facilities such as toilets.

Thammasat University is located near the rally site, and has facilities that the people can use. However, the university has closed its gates, barring entry to the demonstrators.  But it was found that the university has allowed the authorities to station there, with police cars, ambulances and detention vehicles parked inside the campus, the letter says.

The petitioners reminded the administration of the university’s slogan ‘I love Thammasat, because Thammasat teaches me to love the people,’ and of the fact that the Thammasat community has always prided itself as ‘the People’s University.’

Previously, the administration announced reporters would be allowed to use an area at the Faculty of Law building, but this has not happened.
