Khon Kaen University has terminated the work permit of David Eirich Streckfuss, an independent academic who oversees the Council on International Educational Exchange programme at the University. The decision reportedly came after police visited the University President and Faculty Dean, after Streckfuss participated in a workshop which partly involved decentralization.

Student activists from Khon Kaen University have been accused of contempt of court for participating in a peaceful gathering to demand Pai Dao Din’s release.   On 17 March 2017, Thai Lawyers for Human Rights (TLHR) reported that activists from the activist Dao Din group, based in Khon Kaen University, and New Generation Citizens (NGC), another political activist group in the region, received a court notice.

The mother of a jailed anti-junta activist has begged his university not to expel her son after a court refused to release him to take his final exams.    On 12 January 2016, Prim Boonpattaraksa submitted a petition to Khon Kaen University asking for her son, Jatuphat ‘Pai’ Boonpattararaksa, to retain his student status.   Jatuphat risks expulsion from Khon Kaen University’s Faculty of Law since his incarceration means he is likely to miss his final exams on 17 January.

Despite permission from the local military, a Thai university has barred Amnesty International (AI) from showing a documentary about racial persecution in Africa, citing inappropriate timing.      On 9 November, the Deputy Dean of Khon Kaen University’s Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences cancelled a film show by AI featuring “White Shadow,” a documentary about the persecution of albinos in East Africa.

The hunger striking activist’s mom has kneed in front of a prison insisting on seeing her son after the activist was again detained due to another charge.   On Friday, 19 August 2016, Jatuphat Boonpattaraksa, aka Phai, an anti-junta activist from the pro-democracy Dao Din group, was arrested at the provincial court of Phu Khiao District for participating in an anti-junta campaign on 22 May 2015.
